‘Resident Evil’ Franchise Crosses 100 Million Units Sold Milestone, ‘RE3’ Ships Two Million in Five Days

In a new update to their sale figures, Capcom has announced that the Resident Evil franchise has crossed the 100 million units milestone. Though it obviously won’t catch the Super Mario series anytime soon (hint: over 600 million), this puts the franchise in the company of other legendary properties such as The Legend of Zelda and Star Wars in terms of over 100 million units sold.

Along with that news comes more specific updates to Capcom’s Platinum Sales titles – titles that have sold over a million units. Monster Hunter: World continues to make bank, having sold an additional 800,000 units since December, keeping it as Capcom’s best-selling title at over 15.7 million units. Resident Evil 7: biohazard has now sold 7.5 million units, while the remake of Resident Evil 2 is coming up fast with 6.6 million units. Devil May Cry 5 is now the best-selling entry in the franchise at 3.5 million units.

Oh, and the recently-released Resident Evil 3 remake? That had shipped two million units just five days after it was released on April 3. The original RE3 has sold just over 3.5 million units, so it won’t be safe for long.

Obviously, Capcom is on a roll with the Resident Evil franchise again, which makes it seem like a no-brainer for them to be working (allegedly) on the Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil 8.
