Taylor Swift Unveils Some Enviable Quarantine Knitwear

After the debut of Miss Americana, a Netflix documentary that followed Taylor Swift over the years that she recorded her 2019 album Lover, the emotional revelations made the biggest headlines. She cried over her 2018 Grammys snub and let the cameras watch her creative process up close and personal. But the other major revelation, a little harder to catch, was Swift’s extensive loungewear collection. She’s fond of rompers and bejeweled getups on stage, but when she’s at home or in the studio, she’s all about sweatshirts, velour, oversized button-ups, intricate knitwear, and the quintessential at-home accessory: a glass of white wine with a couple of ice cubes.

You might think that a woman with such a collection would be thriving in the quarantine era, and considering that Swift was a pioneer of celebrity Instagram, it seemed unlikely she would want to be excluded from this narrative. But other than a few shots of her cats and a very understated selfie, she has been quiet about her life amid the coronavirus crisis. Until Thursday afternoon, when she posted a stylized selfie with the caption “Big isolation,” a reference to her 2017 album Reputation and the chorus from its song “End Game.”

She’s wearing a chunky knit sweater and soft olive pants, sitting cross-legged on a couch. At first glance it might seem like she’s holding a glass of the currently trendy orange wine, but considering her stated aversion to red wine, we might just have to assume it’s a trick of the light and it’s a more common white. As of this year, she owns about $81 million in real estate across the world, according to Business Insider, and it’s hard to tell exactly where she is right now. But her boyfriend Joe Alwyn has been posting photos of her cat Benjamin Button, and the pair is reportedly self-isolating together. She’s living the quarantine dream, and finally she’s sharing a glimpse of it with the rest of us.

Nothing Swift does comes without a few conspiracy theories, and her Thursday post led to speculation that the flowers on her sweater are a reference to Katy Perry’s new single “Daisies,” out next week. It seems a little tenuous, but considering the emoji clues that launched the Lover era, it’s not out of the range of possibility.
